KL shares firmer midday

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained firmer as at midday today, supported by buying interest in selected heavyweights like Petronas Chemicals and Maxis, dealers said. 

As at 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM LCI) increased 8.81 points to 1,793.57, after opening 3.08 points higher at 1,787.84. Petronas Chemicals and Maxis, which contributed a combined 2.236 points to the rise in the benchmark index, improved eight sen each to RM7.12 and RM7.13 respectively.

Meanwhile, some regional bourses also remained in positive territory with Japan's Nikkei improving 15.63 points to 14,457.17 and Singapore's Straits Times rising 12.33 points to 3,177.58, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 89.99 points to 23,246.53.

On the local scoreboard, the Finance Index surged 93.389 points to 16,778.37, the Plantation Index increased 16.53 points to 8,373.87 and the Industrial Index was 12.74 points higher at 3,068.49.

The FBM Emas Index improved 53.17 points to 12,471.36, the FBMT100 Index advanced 53.811 points to 12,205.03, the FBM Ace rose 19.8 points to 5,482.91 and the FBM 70 was 37.101 points higher at 14,203.41.

Gainers led losers by 343 to 289, with 285 counters unchanged, 692 untraded and 15 others suspended. Volume was moderate at 811.18 million shares worth RM768.219 million.

Among actives, Talam Transform edged up half-a-sen to seven sen, Malton added 4.5 sen to 95.5 sen, while Hubline was unchanged at six sen. 

For the heavyweights, Maybank rose two sen to RM10.02, Axiata edged up one sen to RM6.91, CIMB increased three sen to RM7.51, while Sime Darby was unchanged at RM9.45
