Crafting technical writing


Introduction 

Writing is an effective way to communicate the results of research, fiedlwork, services and consultation works and other activities It is for a flow of information and dissemination of knowledge with a certain purpose. often, a research write  up is deemed as a concrete evidence of the research executed and reflects the quality of the research . Thus, it is important to consider clarify, organisation and content when presenting a research finding in a write up. 

A technical write up may be prepared for a research proposal, and consultation, progress and end of project reports, or in the form of manuscripts prepared for a thesis or jouirnal publication. The write up is prepared in according to the specific requirements, guidelines and scientific papers (to name a few), have a fairly consistent format that is necessary in organising the informatiuon clearly. Most of the technical papers in jounral contain almost the same major sections, however for tehcnical reports, the headings of the sections may vary widely depends on the need of the stakeholders. 


Pusepose of crating tecnical writing 

Technical writing is a part of resrearch activities and its constututes an essential element of the research methodology. Good writing is important in order to deliver the information accurately and considely that could be well understood by the target readers. In general, writing serves as a flow of information to communicate the message to the right person through the effective media. 

Among others, the purposes of writing a scientific write up or a research reports are as follow: 

  • To persuade the stakeholdrs with the credibility of applicant such as knowledge, skill, expertise and availability of facilities through a good research proposal. 
  • As a progress report informing the status of the research at any defined stages. 
  • Partial requirement in meeting the needs of stakeholders, and to honour the agreed terms and conditions set by the parties. 
  • To pursuade or as a 'Buy- in- Management' to convince stakeholders particularly when asking for the resource assitances like financial, human capital, equipment and amangement support. 
  • To share the knowledge and experience in that particular field with other research collegues in the globe. 
  • To indicate the particular scientific investigation and may gain attention and invite feedback from others. 
  • To communicate success (or failure) of research to interested parties such as peer group and public. 
  • As a moral and professional responsibilities to write a report as a record for the activities. 
Technical write-up shall be well written to avoid anyh misunderstanding and serve as a reliable reference.
