KL shares extend gains mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia extended their gains at mid-morning lifted by persistent buying momentum, dealers said.

At 11.01am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,849.89, up 2.39 points, after fluctuating between 1,846.48 and 1,851.53.

A dealer said global equity markets received a boost after the US Federal Reserve said it would reduce the pace of its monthly bond purchases and expressed confidence in the labour market recovery.

"This sparked some positive sentiment into the market and lifted investors' appetite," the dealer said.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index chalked up 40.92 points to 16,924.6, the Industrial Index rose 13.27 points to 3,153.74, but the Plantation Index fell 41.62 points to 8,905.07.

The FBM Emas Index increased 18.75 points to 12,746.99, the FBMT100 Index was up 19.22 points to 12,483.12, the FBM 70 advanced 34.4 points to 14,095.27, and the FBM Ace added 0.16 point to 5,627.03.

Gainers thumped losers 271 to 235, with 291 counters unchanged, 757 untraded and 16 others suspended. 

Turnover was at 394.985 million shares worth RM397.873 million. 

Among actives, Daya Materials added two sen to 41 sen and Xideland Holdings gained three sen to 34.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, TNB rose 10 sen to RM11.04, CIMB perked four sen to RM7.68, and Axiata Group added one sen to RM6.81.

However, Maybank lost four sen to RM10.06 and Sime Darby shed one sen to RM9.55
